Fellowship in ORBIT, PLASTIC AND LACRIMAL (OPAL)
Introduction
Biratnagar Eye Hospital offers a comprehensive Clinical Fellowship in Oculoplasty for ophthalmologists seeking advanced specialization in oculoplastic practice. The program integrates in-depth clinical knowledge with extensive hands-on surgical training, enabling fellows to observe, assist, and independently perform a wide range of oculoplastic procedures under expert supervision.
As a pioneer eye hospital in eastern Nepal, Biratnagar Eye Hospital has a well-equipped Oculoplasty Department led by fellowship-trained faculty and serves as a referral center for complex eyelid, orbital, and lacrimal disorders. The fellowship provides exposure to a diverse range of clinical cases and emphasizes comprehensive patient evaluation, surgical planning, and evidence-based clinical decision-making.
In addition to advanced surgical training, fellows will gain experience in community-based eye care delivery, strengthening their understanding of comprehensive and accessible eye care services.
The fellowship is designed to enhance fellows’ diagnostic, clinical decision-making, and surgical skills, equipping motivated ophthalmologists with the knowledge and practical expertise required to develop and excel in oculoplastic practice.
Objectives:
After the completion of the program all the fellows will be able to
- Diagnose diseases of eyelids, orbit and lacrimal drainage pathway.
- Perform surgery on eyelids, lacrimal system and Orbit.
- Manage operative and post-operative complications appropriately.
- Make able to administer BotulinumToxin Injection in neurological disorders relevant to eye. (EBS/HFS).
- Manage a case of anophtalmic socket by ocularist service.
- Involve in clinical research/publication activities.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Candidates must hold an MD/MS in Ophthalmology recognized by the Nepal Medical Council (NMC) and preference should be given having experience in anterior segment (be competent in performing SICS independently).
Duration: 12 Month
Application Process:
Applicants are requested to apply through Biratnagar Eye Hospital www.leecs.org with the relevant document. Selected candidates will receive information from Biratnagar Eye Hospital within two weeks of submission of the application. Upon Successful payment of the course fee, admission letter will be sent.
For International Candidates:
International applicants must obtain a Temporary Registration Certificate from the Nepal Medical Council (NMC). The registration process is coordinated through the organization and may take time. Placement and scheduling will be confirmed only after NMC registration approval.
