Pediatric and Strabismus Fellowship
Introduction:
Early diagnosis and timely management of childhood ocular disorders are essential to prevent permanent visual impairment and ocular misalignment. This reduces the burden of avoidable childhood blindness. The Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Fellowship is a one-year advanced training program that provides intensive clinical and surgical experience in the comprehensive management of pediatric eye diseases and strabismus.
The fellowship is designed to develop competent pediatric ophthalmologists who can independently manage full range of pediatric ophthalmology outpatient cases and perform pediatric cataract and a broad range of strabismus surgeries, with the aim of achieving optimal visual and functional outcomes for children.
Course Objectives
On completion of the fellowship, the candidate should be able to:
- Perform comprehensive pediatric ophthalmic, visual, refractive, orthoptic, and strabismus examinations.
- Prescribe appropriate spectacles and manage amblyopia and other common pediatric visual disorders.
- Diagnose and manage pediatric cataract and other major pediatric ophthalmic disorders.
- Evaluate and manage pediatric and adult strabismus, including complex ocular motility disorders.
- Perform pediatric cataract and strabismus surgeries safely and independently, including appropriate preoperative planning and postoperative management.
- Communicate effectively with children and their caregivers and provide appropriate counselling and visual rehabilitation.
- Conduct scientific research, critically appraise literature, and disseminate research findings through presentations and scientific publications.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Candidates must hold an MD/MS in Ophthalmology recognized by the Nepal Medical Council (NMC) and be competent in performing adult cataract surgery
Duration: 12 Month
Application Process:
Applicants are requested to apply through Sagarmatha Choudhary Eye Hospital and Biratnagar Eye Hospital via www.leecs.org, along with the relevant documents. Selected candidates will receive information from Sagarmatha Choudhary Eye Hospital and Biratnagar Eye Hospital within two weeks of submission of the application. Upon Successful payment of the course fee, admission letter will be issued.
For International Candidates:
International applicants must obtain a Temporary Registration Certificate from the Nepal Medical Council (NMC). The registration process will be coordinated through the organization and may take time. Clinical placement and training scheduling will be confirmed only after approval of NMC registration.
